2008 Sheriff Election Forum

Police OfficerWatch Jefferson County is sponsoring an online forum with the candidates for Sheriff - you ask the questions and we will get the answers. Between now and March 14 you can submit your pressing questions and concerns related to the Jefferson County Sheriffs Office and county law enforcement. We will compile the questions and present the 5 most common questions to the candidates. They will answer your questions and we’ll post their responses right here on Watch Jefferson County so that you can see how the candidates stack up on the issues that matter most to you.

Here are the rules:

  • Send your questions to watch@watchjeffersoncounty.net or use our contact form.
  • We reserve the right to post all questions on our website. Please do not include any private information. Any questions posted will be anonymous - we will not post your name.
  • Please include as much of your address as you are comfortable with. We would like to use our mapping system to highlight any differences in your concerns relating to district. Any location information you include will not be shared with anyone and will be subject to our privacy policy.
  • Any questions received after midnight on 14 March will not be considered for inclusion in the forum.
  • The candidates have been asked and have agreed to address the top 5 questions and concerns. The consideration of any additional questions or concerns will be at the discretion of the candidates.

Welcome (back) to Watch Jefferson County

Our goal is to improve safety and security in Jefferson County by providing information to the public. I believe that if you know that there have been recent break-ins or other crime in your neighborhood, you’re going to be more likely to be on the lookout and hopefully the perpetrator will be caught more quickly. I’m also hopeful that archiving crime and neighborhood watch data online in a searchable context will help local officials allocate resources more effectively. However, in order for Watch Jefferson County to be successful - and useful - we need to increase participation.

The Monster in Our Midst

Despite efforts by Federal and State Governments to control availability of ingredients (notably, ephedrine) and the nationwide crackdown on manufacturing by Law Enforcement, small “kitchen labs” and larger operations continue to make their appearance known. In addition, large quantities of finished product and manufacturing ingredients are being smuggled into the country through our southern borders. Quick profit, captive consumers and increasing demand are the economic drivers of this criminal enterprise.
